What is Fundamental Frequency?

The fundamental frequency is the core of every musical note you hear. In fact, there’s a fundamental frequency for every single sound you hear.

The fundamental is the main note, the lowest frequency in the group of frequencies you hear when a piano strikes or a singer sings.

There are also accompanying higher harmonics above this fundamental, which add richness, character, and unique timbre to each specific sound you hear.
